Homecoming Game

Football:
Was it a game, or a total loss?

footballThe Red Raider Football Team was very busy getting ready for the Homecoming football game. All week long, they practiced long and hard in the heat, trying to work as hard as they can for the "BIG GAME". Even with the loss of the game, there was a lot of school spirit and support from the parents and fans, as well as old friends meeting up, and the community cheering loud together and having fun.

In my opinion, I wouldn't consider the game a total loss because I believe that if you lose you can learn your strength and weaknesses, and can try to improve yourself for the next game.

footballI recently got the chance to sit down with "Head Coach" Mr. McGoldrick and asked him what he thought of the game. His response was, "We played much better defensively, and we still have a long way to go." He also stated, "We moved the ball fairly but not consistently enough. Issac Manuel, Kene Richardson, and Junior Ortiz played very well on both sides of the ball. But all in all, we showed quite a bit of improvement."

footballJake Cameron, one of the AjoRed Raider football players, said, "We had better team work than weusually do. Everyone did most of their jobs accept just a few mistakes here and there, but we were more disciplined than normal. I think Issac had some good plays along with Kene and Benny. Our new offensive plays were really cool, but we just need some work on our tackling."

The Red Raiders have no more home games, but let's try to wear red and support our football team for their upcoming games.GOOD LUCK RED RAIDERS!!!!  comment

spirit week
By: Savannah McCasland

Dress up days are always a fun way for the students here at Ajo High to show their class and school spirit, and this years' dress up days were definitely a success. Though the sophomores had a dominate lead throughout the entire week, every other class was right behind them. There was no average dress up day, and every class went above and beyond to try and win the points for spirit days.

Some students even dressed up like our mascot during the week, including Kim Robles, Kyle Whitley, Kacy Tryon, Lisa Espinoza, and others as well. Spirit week went great, and it's all thanks to everyone that participated.  comment

Red Raider Volleyball

volleyballOur own Ajo Lady Raiders have had a rough start with players being sick, injured, and learning new rotations from time to time. They have also had trouble sticking together as a team but with much effort, they have managed to pull it off. The last three games were a struggle for them and here are the recaps for homecoming's Patagonia game, Monday's Baboquivari's game and Tuesday's Greenfields game.

The Ajo Lady Raiders lost 3 matches in a row against Patagonia last Friday. The scores were much like a roller coaster. One moment our Lady Raiders would catch up and a split second later they would give Patagonia a lead. Most people in the stands said the girls came off strong but let themselves down over little mistakes.

volleyballEven though Baboquivari doesn't count in our conference, the Lady Raiders took a beating TWICE. They also lost three matches in a row. Due to having two returning players, the team was faced to go back to their old rotation which they had only used for about three games.Greenfield's game was another loss for the Lady Raiders, also losing three matches in a row.

volleyballCoach Jenson had told the girls they played tougher than the day before, playing against Baboquivari. Greenfield has some really good players on their team playing volleyball but that doesn't mean that Ajo's volleyball girls don't have the potential to play just as good.

Come support your Lady Raiders Varsity team play against ASDB (Arizona School for the Deaf and the Blind) at 5 this afternoon and enjoy the tasty snacks the Juniors have in the concession stand.  comment

The Community Pep Assembly was held Wednesday, September 30th in the gym from 6 to 7 pm. Among the people that showed were students, parents, teachers, and community members. Several games and activities were played including a relay race which combined high school, middle school, community members, and an elementary kid. There was also an oreo eating contest where the eaters had to lick all the cream and then eat the cookies as fast as they could. Another eating contest was a peanut butter and jelly where the contestants had to make their sandwich, and one that involved a bottle full of honey. Near the end of the assembly Dr. Painter, Dr Dooley, Mr. McGoldrick, and Mr. Harvey grooved and danced to the Cha Cha Slide.

The Stress of It All
By: Savannah McCasland

For most of the students here at Ajo High School, homecoming is a fun week with games, competitions, and an awesome dance, but it is a completely different story for student council. You see, we work our tails off for weeks before homecoming even starts, planning games, spirit days, decorations, and other amazing things for everyone to enjoy.

As student body president, I honestly found it hard to even find time to sleep that week. I would doze off every chance I got, in class (don't tell the teachers), after school, even in volleyball practice! It was really fun, but I am so glad that it's finally over. So next time you see a class officer, member of the student body, or even Mr. Harvey himself, give them a handshake on the job that they did so everyone could enjoy last week.  comment

Movie Review:
Cloudy with a Chance
of Meatballs
By: Cinnamon Robles

Meatballs

Imagine yourself in a town where your breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served straight down from the sky. This is exactly how the people of Chewand Swallow were supplied. This animated movie is a story of Flint Lockwood, a scientist, who has created countless inventions that have only got him in trouble throughout his life. Flint then, creates a machine that transforms water into food, but when the machine is accidently emitted into the sky, food begins to pour down like a storm. At first the citizens of Chewand Swallow are excited with such a surplus of food, but begin to realize that the excessive amount could lead to a catastrophe. This family friendly movie is fun people of all ages, especially when seen in 3D!! This movie is rated PG for brief mild language.  comment

The Unofficial
Spirit Stick Rules
By: Journey Jones

  1. To earn the spirit stick you have to participate in all the games in the pep assembly.
  2. Participate in all the games and activities the school has to offer.
  3. At the end of the assembly whatever class has the most points gets the stick till the next pep assembly.
  4. The stick HAS to go to everyone in the class.
  5. It can't stay with one person.
  6. The stick can be taken away from another class. For example, if one person has the stick and puts it down and isn't paying attention to it at all then the person from another class can easily take it.
  7. What they can't do is that if the person has the stick the other class CANNOT take it away, it's an illegal take.
  8. The class that has the stick has to go to every home game.
